Sri Guru Amar Das Jee in the Composition in Suhi ki Var, given below teaches us that union with God cannot be attained by merely performing religious rituals. The Guru gives the simile of the true union of a bride with her husband. No bride can win over her husband's love by merely decorating herself with various types of body decorating materials. The true union is attaned, when the bride gives her total self to her huband and live a disciplined life loving him. All humans are the brides of One Creator Lord, and the union with Him is attained when we become true brides, love Him selflessly, live a disciplined life according to His Commands, which we all are capable of hearing, as the Lord abides within us. Disciplined Life means to have reverence for the Lord, the important constituents of Reverence are Love and Fear. This Fear is offspring of Love - lest my Beloved be separated from me, by my slightest misdeed of disobedience of His Commands. To enable us to be ever vigilant of the Divine Discipline, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee enjoined us to keep with us the Symbol of Kirpan or Sword, the Symbol of Divine Authority, to inspire us to lead the Disciplined Life of Obedience to the Divine Commands.
The Second thing which Sri Guru Amar Das Jee clarified in the Pauri given below is that ONLY ONE CREATOR LORD EXISTS, AND THE WHOLE OF CREATION IS ONLY HIS MANIFESTATION. ALL THE EXCELLENCES IN ANY ONE CREATURE ARE THE CREATOR LORD'S EXCELLENCES. HENCE THE LORD HAS BEEN REMEMBERED BY THE NAMES ATTRIBUTED TO VARIOUS gods and goddesses also. HERE SRI GURU AMAR DAS JEE STATED "mun tun nirmal ati sohna bhaitya krisan Murar."
Now let us examine Sri Guru Amar Das Jee's Compositions -
"SHALOK M.3. - O bride, decorate yourself, after you surrender and accept your Husband Lord. Otherwise, your Husband Lord will not come to your bed, and your ornaments will be useless. O bride, your decorations will adorn you, only when your Husband Lord's Mind is pleased. Your ornaments will be acceptable and approved, only when your Husband Lord loves you. So make the Fear of God your ornaments, joy your betel nuts to chew, and love your food. Surrender your body and mind to your Husband Lord, and then, O Nanak, He will enjoy you. 1 .
M.3: The wife takes flowers, and fragrance of betel, and decorates herself. But her Husband Lord does not come to her bed, and so these efforts are useless. 2 .
M.3: They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together. They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies. 3
PAURI: Without the Fear of God, there is no devotional worship, and no love for the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Meeting with the True Guru, the Fear of God wells up, and one is embellished with the Fear and the Love of God. When the body and mind are imbued with the Lord's Love, egotism and desire are conquered and subdued. mun tun nirmal ati sohna bhaitya Krisan Murar - The mind and body become immaculately pure and very beautiful, when one meets the Lord, the Destroyer of ego. Fear and love all belong to Him; He is the True Lord, permeating and pervading the Universe. 9."
"(Pauri - Bhai bin bhagat na hovei nam na lagai piyar. Satgur miliye bhao opjai bhai bhaey rung savar. Tun mun rata rung sion homai trisna mar. mun tun nirmal ati sohna bhaitya krisan murar. Bho bhao subh tis da so sach vatai sunsar. 9)"
