O Lord, extend Your Personal protection to me and kill all my enemies here and now [refers to our countless inner enemies, i.e. evil thinking, diseases etc.] May my this wish be fulfilled and I ever yearn to reflect my mind on You. (3).

* No one has got any external enemy, all our enemies are within us. It is man, who creates his own enemies. When a man is not at peace with himself, hell is created within him, which creates havoc all round him. By conquering the self, he conquers the whole world. God is present every whereand is in all creatures, and it is He Who motivates persons to act in a particular manner. Only He can lead us to think right and do right things. Creatures on their own act unethically, invariably against themselves, in pursuit of their selfish motives unwisely and wildly. Man unknowingly acts against himself.

AASA MEHLA 5, p. 370: "I have been separated from my Beloved by Maya (my mother-in-law).  Hope and desire (my younger brother-in-law and sister-in-law) are dying of grief.  I am no longer swayed by the fear of Death (my elder brother-in-law).  I am protected by my All-knowing, Wise Husband Lord.  1 .  Listen, O people: I have tasted the elixir of love.  The evil ones are dead (instinctual enemies within us), and my enemies are destroyed. The True Guru has given me the Name of the Lord.  1 . Pause .  First, I renounced my egotistical love of myself.  Second, I renounced the ways of the world.  Renouncing the three qualities, I look alike upon friend and enemy.  And then, the fourth state of bliss was revealed to me by the Holy One.  2 .  In the cave of celestial bliss, I have obtained a seat.  The Lord of Light plays the unstruck melody of bliss.  I am in ecstasy, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.  Imbued with my Beloved Husband Lord, I am the blessed, happy soul-bride.  3 .  Servant Nanak chants the wisdom of God;  one who listens and practices it, is carried across and saved.  He is not born, and he does not die; he does not come or go.  He remains blended with the Lord.  4 . 2 ."

Also -  Please refer to Phune M. 5, p. 1370 - "The five evil enemies are tormenting me; how can I destroy them? Shoot them with the sharp arrows of meditation on the Name of God. O Lord! The way to slaughter these terrible sadistic enemies is obtained from the Perfect Guru.  16"

* Sword, Double Edged Sword, Lance, and all weapons of this nature in the Symbolic Language stand for Knowledge, Wisdom. Intellect, Reason, Thought, Speech and so on. Sword depicts tongue in dreams, which in turn denotes speech and connected activities. Knowledge and Wisdom cut the veil of ignorance, in the same manner as a sword. The following references appear in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which denote this meaning -

(a) Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the fourth Nanak, in his composition, Rag Gauri Poorbi Karhalai, page 235 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, states -

Man karhalaa vadbhaagiya tun gyaan ratan samaal. Gur gyaan kharag hath dhaariya jam maar-yaraa jam-kaal. (7)
O my wandering mind, you will be very fortunate, if you take care of the Jewel of the Divine knowledge, God's Light in you (Guru) is the Destroyer of Death. You hold the Sword of the Divine Knowledge in your hand and slay the Angel of Death."
(b) Sri Guru Ram Das Ji in Rag Vadhans, page 574, states -
Satgur gyaan kharag hath deena jam-kankar maar bidaare.
The True Guru has blessed us with the SWORD OF WISDOM, with which we have annihilated the couriers of Yama.
(c) Sri Guru Ram Das in Rag Nat, page 983, states -
lobh lahar sabh suaan halak hai halkiyo sabheh bigaare. Mere thaakur kai deebaan khabar hoyee gur gyaan kharag lai maarai. (7)
Greed, like a mad dog, bites any one and infects all it touches with a like malady. But when the Master's Court comes to know it, it is slain with the SWORD OF WISDOM.
(d) Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Rag Maru, page 1022, states -
Kaam krodh ahankaar nivaare. Taskar panch sabad sanghaare. Gyaan kharag lai man syo loojhai mansaa maneh samaayee he. (3)
If one overcomes Lust, Wrath and Egocentricity, slays the Five Thieves (the sickly instinctual drives) through the Guru's Word, and struggles with the mind, armed with the SWORD OF WISDOM, all the sickly drives merge back in the mind.
(e) Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in Rag Maru, Sohile, page 1072, states -
Har ka naam kot lakh baaha. Har jas keertan sang dhan taaha. Gyaan kharag kar kirpa deena doot maare kar dhaayee he. (9)
He, who cherishes the Lord's Name, and has the Riches of the Lord's Praise, possesses the strength of millions upon millions of arms. The Lord in His Mercy, blesses him with the SWORD OF WISDOM, he thus slays the demons in him with the flash like charge.
(f) Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, in Rag Kalyan, page 1324, states -
chandan vas bhoye-angam veree kiv mileeyai chandan leejai. Katd kharag gur gyan karaara bikh chhedh chhedh ras pijai. (3)
The Chandan Tree is girdled by snakes. How is one to get to the Tree? Draw out the Powerful SWORD OF THE GURU'S WISDOM, cut into pieces the poisonous things, and suck in the Elixir (of God's Name).
(g) Sri Guru Amar Das Ji, in Slok 14, Varan tai Vadik, page 1414, states -
Gyaan kharag panch doot sanghaare gurmat jaagai soye. Naam ratan pargaasiya man tan nirmal hoye
One gets awakened with the Guru's Word, and with this SWORD OF WISDOM, he slays the Five Demons. With this the Jewel of His Name emerges, which makes both, the body and mind stainless and pure."
(h) Sri Guru Amar Das Ji, in Pauri 1, Maru ki Var, page 1087, states -
Gur te gyaan paaiya at kharag karaara. Dooja bhram gar katiya mohe lobh ahankaara
One finds WISDOM from the GURU - IT IS THE MIGHTY SWORD. It cleaves the fortress of one's cravings for worldly things, also Attachment, Egocentricity and Greed.
(I) Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in Rag Sorath, page 628, states -
gribi gada hamari. khanna sagal rainu chari. eis agai ko na tikai vaikari. gur poore aih gal sari.
Humility is our Mace and to be the Dust of all, is our Double Edged Sword. For the people so well armed as we are, no evil doer can make a successful stand against us. This is the secret revealed by God's Wisdom."

Sri Guru Gobind Singh's writings -

(1) O Mightiest Sword (God), O The Conqueror of worlds, O Vanquisher of the hosts of evil, O Embellisher of the brave in the field of battle. Your arms are unbreakable, Your Light refulgent, Your Glory and Splendour dazzle like the sun. O Happiness of the holy, O Crusher of evil intent, O Subduer of sin, I seek Your refuge. Victory be to You, O the Creator of Universe, O our Deliverer and Sustainer. Victory, Victory, Victory be to You, the Mightiest Sword.
(Bichhitar Natak)
(2) God first created the Double Edged Sword (Knowledge of Himself), and then the Universe.
( Chandi di Var)
(3) Blessed is his life in the world, who keeps God's Name on his tongue and ever fights with the evil within him. Our body is perishable and will not last with us for ever. Board the Boat of God's Glory and ferry yourself across the sea of material existence. We should exercise utmost patience, and illuminate our mind with the Light of God, and take the Sword of God's Wisdom in our hand, and root out the fear of death (cowardice) within us.
(Krishna Avtar)
